Start your engines, ladies and gentlemen – We have a Race! After only having two contested Director positions in 2010 (President and Secretary were uncontested), and having no contested positions for any office in 2011, this year we have an abundance of qualified candidates – 15 in all. Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to toss your hat in the ring.
This is the first year that we have only Director positions – no officer positions; once elected to the Board of Directors, the Board will elect the officers from amongst the Directors. This means that from the list of fifteen candidates, you choose four of those Directors. Choose no more than four.
Again, this year we are going to have an open discussion with the candidates on our BMW MOA Forum located on-line at www.bmwmoa.org/forum. There is a special Election Forum in the Clubhouse area for members to ask the candidates questions about their outlook on the BMW MOA, the issues we face, and what their stand would be. Please take a moment to read the guidelines for election forum use that will be posted at the top of the election forum. The usual reasons I hear for not voting is that one doesn’t know the candidates or there is no choice. This year candidates come from the northwest, mountain zone, north and south central, northeast, southeast and Canada. This is a fantastic geographical representation, and chances are you know one or more of the candidates. And choice - you have lots of choices.
What’s next? So, start your engines, put ‘er in gear, and get ‘er done. As Secretary of the BMW MOA, along with Paul Glaves, Chair of the Candidate Search Committee, we ask that you participate in the 2013 Election by filling out the ballot inserted after the candidate position statements in the APRIL issue of the BMW ON and mail it to be postmarked before May 31 and received by June 20, 2013 to be counted.
I would like to thank Paul Glaves, Ian Schmeisser, and Doug Crow for their service on the 2013 Candidate Search Committee. They put in a lot of time and effort to gather packets, validate them, and present them in the proper format for publication. Ian deserves extra credit for trying to bring some of the rest of us into the modern technological age – the man has patience!
