It’s not a secret; as a woman I fit into the category of having wider hands than most other ladies. When trying to find gloves, I often hit the wall when browsing through women-specific gloves made for slender hands. If they don’t come in a size XXL, they just won’t fit. I end up having too narrow gloves that cut off the circulation in my hands, which can make riding painful.
So when Catherine and John from Real Rider told me about a men’s three-season touring glove that would provide a great fit and protection, I was sold. I wear my father’s old vintage motorcycle T-shirts and occasionally I borrow clothes from my brothers, so there was no big deal in trying out a men’s glove. I’m all for gender neutrality. If the product fits, wear it, right?
When the gloves first arrived, I noticed some promising features. The top of the glove is constructed of goat leather (a natural leather known to be lightweight and flexible as well as durable and water resistant) and perforated goat leather for protection and easy breathability. The backs of the hand, wrist and each finger are more pliable thanks to built-in stretch panels. The palm of the glove is constructed of perforated goat leather and is reinforced with digital leather for an improved grip. It also features a hard-shell slider on the outer palm for impact protection. Another cool feature is each finger has an individual air intake to supplement the ventilation provided by the perforations in the goat leather. When it comes to comfort, the seams in the Speed glove have been turned outward for increased rider comfort. A Velcro strap adjusts the wrist, while a zipper with a rubberized pull seals the deal.
As I pulled on these gloves for my second ride of the season (a 70-degree day in the middle of January), I found the zipper was nice to have, since by unzipping it I had a wider space to slip my wide palms into the glove. The interior was soft and comfortable, and having the seams on the outside definitely makes a difference. The glove is very pliable and I could flex my fingers freely. While on the road I could feel the air rushing past the top of my fingers and hands as the air intakes on each finger were inhaling the wind – a feature I know I’ll appreciate come summer!
Wearing these gloves, I had a nice, long, enjoyable ride with no cut-off circulation in my hands. After I returned home, I showed the new gloves to my father and boyfriend, and both of them tried them on. I guess we all wear size 9 (L) men’s gloves, since they both fit nicely in the gloves as well. My father was impressed by the construction of the glove and their natural curve, as the fingers are curved to fit a hand in riding position more naturally. Coming from a man that has been riding 35-plus years and has been working on BMWs just as long, my father’s opinion means a lot to me.
Overall, I’ve found the men’s three-season touring Speed glove by ESKA to be a reliable glove with a fantastic fit and excellent construction – whether the wearer is a man or woman. While I haven’t taken a spill in the gloves yet, I feel comfortable knowing the construction of these gloves will keep my hands safe. I also get more assurance since ESKA has been in the glove-making trade for over 100 years and, as Catherine stated, “That experience is what makes the product exceptional.”
The ESKA Speed gloves retail for $144.95 and come in men’s sizes M–XXXL (8–12). For more information or ordering, visit www.real-rider.com or call toll-free 866-243-5638. If you have any questions, send them to email@example.com . They will be happy to help you out.
