About MOA
You bought the motorcycle, grabbed your gear and answered the call of the open road. What’s next? Discovering great roads? Sharing a cross-country adventure with other passionate motorcyclists? Or is it just kickin’ tires and tellin’ stories? We’re good with all of that!
We are the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. A group of 25,000 BMW motorcycle enthusiasts who started with the same spark for motorcycling that you did. Our history dates back over 50 years to five friends who formed a motorcycle club to stay in touch with each other. Today, we are a network of riders across all 50 United States and ten Canadian provinces. We have members on all seven continents and it isn’t possible to ride without finding a friendly face.
We’re always available to help. Contact the Membership Team or the Board of Directors. Let us help you… ride inspired!
The MOA Board of Directors
Brian Dutcher, PresidentI first became a BMW MOA member in 2010, was appointed as the Iowa Regional Coordinator in 2018, then elected to the Board of Directors in 2020 and as Vice President in 2021. The two-wheeled bug bit me at a young age growing up in the off-road racing capital of the world, San Diego, California. After racing motocross and running the desert in my youth, a typical 20-year riding hiatus occurred while following the Air Force worldwide and raising a family. After returning from Iraq in 2008, I bought my first BMW motorcycle, a 2009 F 800 GS. Since then, several rides have rotated through the stable while pushing closer to 200,000 BMW miles, but my consistent ride has been my 2011 R 1200 GSA. After years of experiencing everything the MOA had given us, it was time to take the moto passion and give back to the organization and community. So it is with honor and humility that I have the opportunity to serve you and this great organization, to preserve its rich heritage while adapting and growing stronger to support tomorrow’s BMW rider. |

Chad Garcia, SecretaryMy love of motorcycles started as a teenager and has continued throughout my life. I graduated from St. John’s Military Academy. I married the love of my life, Rhonnie, and also joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1988. I served in Desert Storm aboard the USS Guam and after leaving the USMC I became a firefighter, rescue diver and EMT. My life has focused around motorcycles and motorcyclists, which has given me a lot of experience working with a variety of people in various positions. Training and advocating for those that ride is my focus. My wife Rhonnie and I started attending and volunteering at BMW events more than 10 years ago and quickly realized BMW riders are OUR people! In 2023 we were the National Rally RV Chairs. |
Phil Stalboerger, TreasurerLife is about stories and experiences, and all of my BMW’s, past and present, have gifted me with many stories over the years. Who we associate ourselves with often says a lot aboutus. I joined the BWM MOA to be associated with a group of riders who care about the experience as well as the brand.I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was 16, but didn’t fall in love with BMW’s until 2006 after riding my brothers R1100S BCR (which is now part of my collection). I started volunteering at rallies and eventually became a Regional Coordinator at the suggestion of the various dealerships around the country that I had been visiting while traveling. Who and what we let into our lives can motivate us to choose certain pathways. My traveling Motorrad memories have been created on the likes of an ‘02 K1200RS, eight R1100’s over the years, a 2007 R1200S and R1200RT, a 1982 R100RS, an ‘05 K1200S and others. Every member of the MOA has a story, and the MOA provides a forum for all of us to live, learn, and share in our passion. I have been involved with the BMW Motorcycle Owners Club of Minnesota, as a Board member and volunteer. I was recently appointed to the Board of MOA to fill the vacancy of Paul Di Marchi in December of 2022. I am thrilled to join the Board and I look forward to helping the MOA continue to grow and be a successful club, along with it’s Foundation in order to continue promoting safety and training that can enhance our experiences for another 50 years and beyond. |

Steve Pelletier, DirectorI have lived in Maine for 35 years with my life partner Donna, our five kids and 13 grandchildren (who keep me out of trouble … for the most part). My riding experience didn’t begin until my 50s, and it wasn’t long before I got a ’99 BMW F 650, which is when I heard about Muriel Farringtion and her solo travels around the country. In my quest to emulate her, I joined the MOA in 2009 and attended my first National Rally in Vermont. I’m lucky enough to have explored our country a bit, some of Canada and her Maritimes, Newfoundland and even a bit of Australia. Unquestionably, there is one constant I have found: BMW MOA is recognized everywhere, our members are always welcoming, and it’s a great place to get support and learn about motorcycles, motorcycle safety and moto adventures! In my almost 30-year Hospital Administration career, I tried to create exceptional experiences for those served while also creating a supporting environment for the staff that delivered that goal. I see this position on the MOA Board as a similar opportunity: to help create an exceptional experience for you as a MOA member and support the staff that makes that happen. |
Doug Peters, DirectorMy first term on the BOD was been a great learning experience. I learned the procedures, experienced the ins and outs of being on the BOD and working through various aspects of club business and club issues. I met and worked with amazingly capable BOD members, both long-time experienced members and others that are new at it. I enjoyed getting to know the Foundation members. I am glad to see the strong bond between MOA and the Foundation and the coordination between the two. I have a much greater understanding of various issues that we face as a club, such as keeping the membership numbers up, bringing in young members, reaching out to the different factions and rider groups, preserving our heritage, encouraging volunteering, keeping our rally strong and special, coordinating with charter clubs, managing our budget, and making rider training more accessible. |
Michael “Roc” Shannon, Director
I acquired my first BMW in 1986 which was a 1985 K100RS. My second bike was a 1998 K12RS. I put 400,000 miles on those two K bikes before purchasing my current 2015 R1200GSA. I joined the BMW MOA in 1988 and have missed only four national rallies. I have volunteered in numerous capacities through the years and was appointed as an ambassador in 2010. I co-chaired the 2011 BMW MOA National Rally and in 2012 I acted as President of the Hoosier Beemers Club. I was asked to serve on the BMW MOA Board of Directors in 2019 after Chad Warner stepped down. Volunteers are the life blood of our organization. I have had a great time and met some of my best friends who are like family while volunteering with this organization. I strongly urge you to share your talents and time to help us grow and succeed. We need our members to get involved with their local clubs and with the BMW MOA. |
