Replacing the air filter (AHM101)

Welcome back to another MOA Garage BMW motorcycle tech video. We hope you’ll like, comment, ask questions, subscribe, ring the bell and continue supporting the MOA with your membership.

Along with fluid maintenance, changing the air filter periodically is an easy (and important) way to keep your bike running its best.

This series is meant for riders new to Airheads who may not have a lot of mechanical knowledge. In many cases, you’ll be learning right along with our host! The process shown in this video applies to BMWs from the 1970s and possibly the early 1980s and beyond. CHECK YOUR SHOP MANUAL FOR DETAILS associated with your particular motorcycle.

Tools needed:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 10mm wrench (not everybody will need one)

Parts/supplies needed:

  • Air filter – BMW p/n 13 72 1 251 048, covers most Slash 5, 6 and 7 bikes but check with your dealer
  • Rags and contact/carb cleaner for tidying up
