In their efforts to remind riders around the world of the modularity and adaptability of the R nineT platform – and its new R 12 brothers – BMW Motorrad released details on an accessories package called The Tracker. If you’ve always wanted to make your bike look like a flat track racer (or maybe you want to flat track race your R 12), you can now benefit from BMW’s newest kit. Please note that you don’t have to give your bike the number 35, that’s just what BMW’s done for the sake of these photos. Number stickers aren’t included in the package.
The package creates, according to BMW Motorrad, “a short, sporty rear section, a signature cockpit fairing, and striking number plates define the look – taking cues from machines that have become design icons far beyond the racetrack.” They said more in a press release about this new package:
“Flat track machines embody pure dynamism: compact proportions, clean lines, and bold details create their unmistakable presence. Characteristic features include the short rear, prominent number plates, and a silhouette pared down to pure racing – captivating both motorsport fans and the global customizing scene.
“BMW Motorrad captures this spirit with The Tracker accessories package for the BMW R 12 nineT. Every element is designed to bring the purist racing character to the street. The result is a motorcycle that radiates dynamism even at a standstill – with crisp lines, authentic flat track touches, and a unique character that makes the R 12 nineT a true statement.”
What you get for your $2,595 is a shortened rear section with Black Storm Metallic trim, a license plate relocator, a black solo seat, the Tracker cockpit fairing (also in Black Storm Metallic), left AND right number plates (many similar bikes only have one number plate due to a high exhaust), a replacement front fender (again, Black Storm Metallic) and a sticker set for the number plates and cockpit fairing (though you’ll have to supply your own favorite numbers).
You can also purchase these items separately, which speaks again to the customization BMW provides on this particular platform. BMW recommends you have a dealer install these products, but that’s up to you. Everything in the package is street legal, so you won’t have to jump through any hoops with DMV or other regulatory agencies.
