Airheads (lite) tech day in South Boston, which is on US 58 at the bottom of Virginia.

Ride down was chilly but not bad. Used jacket liner instead of flannel. Decided to use some freeways there & back for expediency. Not riding through Chesterfield County on US 360 again if I don’t have to, that is a suckfest especially on the weekends. Cool, overcast, very scenic.

Stopped to use a restroom somewhere on US 360 – a place I’d been before, actually – somewhere near Crewe. Ran into two dudes from the Richmond BMW club and rode with them the rest of the way, a little under an hour. Dude on an R 100 RS blew past us; figured he was headed where we were going. He got there maybe 2-3 minutes before we did, he was still taking off his ‘stich when we rolled up.

I’d been thinking Chris and Mike were going a bit slow (60 mph speed limit) but they were going 60. I decided to just be happy with that and enjoy the ride. Why go faster? I wasn’t in a hurry. I didn’t need to be first. Fast RS Dude kinda harshed my mellow but he’s got to ride his own ride. His fault if he’s in a hurry. Well, it turns out that dude lives across the back yard from my Mom’s house. He knows them and their dog. Small world! Glad I wasn’t too judgy, he seems like a decent fella.

Wrote out directions old school and used the map case Pat gave me. Took the Beeline just in case. Even though I kicked it in when almost home, I was on the right track and would have ended up back on US 360 if I’d trusted my sense of direction and kept going. It was nice to have the reassurance, though.

Watched a dude called Ted use his Carb Harmonizer – now I have a better idea how to use mine. Not as difficult as the instructions I found online make it look. Nick Stokes is the new VA Airmarshal and suggested a carb rebuild book from Motobins. Naturally they’re in the UK and refusing to ship anything to the US right now because of the tariff situation. Pain in the ass. Books are exempt from the tariffs! Especially educational books. It shouldn’t be hard to get books into the country, I guess unless they’re truly subversive or whatever. I have some friends in the UK, maybe I can convince them to sub-ship one to me if I get it send to them.

New Klim gloves have a hole in the left hand after very little use (IMO) so far. Stitching just came apart. Kinda irritated about that. Probably outside the warranty period.

Three full tanks of gas today. A little disappointed at my fuel efficiency, but the bike is running well so I shouldn’t complain. Having to add oil more often; I hope I don’t have to do the pushrods and their seals before the end of the year. It would suck if I had to give up riding time – of course if winter kicks in early and hard like the monster shouters are saying it will, it might not matter anyway. We’ll see.
