Last tire/dump run before the shop closes

No riding. Took Jim’s truck & trailer up to George’s shop to collect the last 56 tires. I also collected a bunch of my parts to take home—everything I need to do the pushrod tube seals on the Airhead, plus a set of Michelin Road Classic tires and some heavy duty tubes made in Thailand, and my carb parts. Stopped at Morton’s to pick up parts for the R 60/2—two 18×3.50 Metzeler Block C tires, Bridgestone heavy duty tubes, rim strips, swingarm boot, etc. The rim strips they had are a good fit for both 18 and 19-inch wheels, so I got two for the R 90/6 too. Need to get an oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. Maybe from EME. (I just ordered them from EME.)

This photo is from a run at the beginning of the month, but it’s what it looks like to haul a huge pile of used motorcycle tires to the dump—plus one random SUV tire

It seems as if the slingers on the R 60/2 were cleaned on schedule—at 30,000 miles, at least according to Chester’s son. George says I need to take off the valve covers and drop the oil pan to look for sludge or debris. Clean them all, and if dirty, use non-detergent oil. Regular oil apparently has a lot of detergents to keep engines clean, but that stuff would dissolve anything trapped in the slingers an that stuff could clog the oil passages, leading to catastrophic engine failure. He says if everything looks clean, then the slingers were almost definitely done and I can use the Valvoline VR1 40-weight (racing) oil I got for it. Still, he says to ride 100 or 200 miles and do it all again to verify.
