Buried among the new colors, package changes and pricing in BMW Motorrad USA’s recent 2027 model-year update is a benefit worth considerably more attention than another shade of metallic paint: BMW will continue including the initial break-in service with every new 2027 BMW motorcycle sold in the United States.

BMW calls it the Ultimate Care Break-In Service, although most riders will know it simply as the “600-mile service.” The service is included with the motorcycle at no additional charge, provided it is performed within six months of the bike’s in-service date or before the odometer reaches 750 miles, whichever comes first.

While the appearance of this tidbit in the MY27 announcement makes the program look new, it isn’t. BMW Motorrad USA actually introduced complimentary break-in service across its entire U.S. motorcycle range for the 2025 model year, describing it at the time as a first for the U.S. market. BMW continued the program for 2026 models and has now confirmed it will remain standard for MY27. At this point in 2026, it might not be super useful if you bought your motorcycle in 2025, but we’ve still got four months left to go this year.

The first service on a new motorcycle is more than an ordinary oil change. It is the point at which the motorcycle receives its prescribed break-in inspection after its first several hundred miles, allowing the dealer to perform the model-specific maintenance and checks BMW specifies after the initial running-in period. BMW recommends contacting an authorized dealer for the precise requirements and scheduling for an individual motorcycle—and hey, why not? It’s free!

The important part for owners is the clock. BMW’s terms specify six months or 750 miles, whichever comes first. Someone who puts 600 miles on a motorcycle in the first few weeks will therefore want to schedule the service promptly, but the same applies to a lightly ridden bike approaching its six-month anniversary with substantially fewer miles.

BMW’s Ultimate Care information also offers several paid maintenance programs covering subsequent service, but don’t confuse those with the complimentary break-in service. The initial service is included with qualifying new motorcycles; owners do not have to purchase one of the longer-term Ultimate Care plans to receive it.

If you bought a new 2025 or 2026 BMW and haven’t yet reached the service interval (or if a 2027 BMW is in your future) check with your BMW Motorrad dealer about the Ultimate Care Break-In Service rather than assuming that first visit to the service department will be on your dime.
