EXEMPLARY SERVICE AWARD

This is the BMW MOA’s highest honor. Recipients include those who, year after year, recruit new members, work on committees, and help BMW MOA grow in any way possible. They would also include those who never refuse when asked, take responsibility for significant projects, and those who would take the initiative to address issues, whether anyone asks them or not.

A standing committee of the elected BMW MOA Board of Directors screens nominations for this award. They then present their recommendations to the Board of Directors for consideration. Recipients are announced annually at the National Rally Awards ceremony.

EXEMPLARY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENTS

HOW TO NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR THE EXEMPLARY SERVICE AWARD

If you believe an MOA member should be considered for an Exemplary Service Award, please submit your nomination to bod@bmwmoa.org or mail to BMW MOA, 2350 Highway 101 South, Greer, SC 29651. All nominations must be submitted by May 1st of each year to be considered for presentation at the National Rally Awards ceremony.

Nominations should address the following criteria

Nominator & Nominee Information

  • Nominee Name & MOA Number: (If known. Nominee does not need to be an active/current MOA member)
  • Nominee Contact Info: (Email/Phone)
  • Nominator Name & MOA Number
  • Relationship to Nominee: (e.g., Fellow member, Committee chair, Local club officer)

Core Award Criteria Questions

These questions are designed to address the specific language in the MOA’s description of the “Exemplary Service Award.”

Sustained Commitment (The “Year After Year” Rule) – How long has the nominee been actively contributing to the BMW MOA? Please describe their history of service over multiple years or decades.

Growth & Recruitment – The Exemplary Service Award recognizes those who help the club grow. Can you provide specific examples of how the nominee has recruited new members or promoted the MOA to the wider motorcycling community?

Committee & Project Leadership – List the specific committees, projects, or rallies the nominee has served on. What was their specific role, and what was the outcome of their involvement?

Reliability & Initiative (The “Never Refuse” Factor) – Describe a time when the nominee took responsibility for a significant project or addressed a critical issue without being asked. How did their initiative prevent a problem or improve a club function?

Qualitative & Narrative Questions
These provide the “color” the Board of Directors needs to make a final decision.

The “Above and Beyond” Statement – What makes this nominee’s service ‘Exemplary’ rather than just ‘expected’? Why do they deserve the MOA’s highest honor compared to other hardworking volunteers

Community Impact – Beyond administrative tasks, how has the nominee impacted the culture or spirit of the MOA? Do they serve as a mentor or role model for other riders?

Testimonials (Optional but Recommended) – If applicable, please share a brief quote or anecdote from another member that illustrates the nominee’s dedication or character.

Supplemental Evidence

Supporting Documentation: You may include a PDF or image (e.g., a photo of the nominee in action, a link to an article they wrote for Owners News, or a letter of support from a Chartered Club).

Because this award is vetted by a standing committee and approved by the Board of Directors, the quality of your nomination is critical. Please keep the following guidelines in mind while completing this form:

  • Be Specific: Avoid generalities like “they are a great person.” Instead, use “they managed the registration tent for three years” or “they recruited 15 new members at the local dealership.”
  • Focus on Longevity: The committee looks for sustained service. Highlight contributions made over several years rather than a single event.
  • Highlight Initiative: This award specifically recognizes those who see a “gap” in the club and fill it without being asked. Tell us about a time the nominee stepped up voluntarily.
  • Quantify Impact: If the nominee saved the club money, increased rally attendance, or streamlined a process, please include those details.
  • Provide Evidence: While not required, attaching letters of support from other members or photos of the nominee’s work can strengthen the case for their selection.
