New world record! Just kidding. Maybe. 400-mile weekend though, plus 70 or so miles on Friday for lunch. Might be the farthest I’ve ridden this bike in one weekend so far.

Met Scott in Victoria VA at La Victoria Mexican Restaurant. Had a big burrito filled with refried beans, rice and grilled shrimp. Mostly beans & rice. Tasty.

Tool kit is progressing – I ordered some more bits after comparing what I have to what was in the kit under the seat.

Really just errands today.

I rode back to Morton’s again (AGAIN!) today using US 301 and VA 2. I thought they had some event going on and people were going to be there, but I must have gotten the day wrong. They had donuts though, so that was nice.

I called George. “I’m retired!” he said when he answered the phone. I think he knew what was coming.

Bike runs smoother since the valve adjustment, but once fully warmed up, it wants to idle at 1800 or 2000 rpm – period.

Kermit came on his R 1250 GS “Rallye” and brought all sorts of tools, including a battery-powered drill and a battery-powered impact “wrench” (drill).

Changing the oils was easy and it went exactly as it should have all around. I made a huge mess draining the final drive despite trying hard not to. Typical of me, I guess. But I changed the oils LAST. Let me tell you what I did FIRST.

Didn’t really have anywhere I needed to go or anything to do, but the weather was too nice to stay in all weekend. High 70s to low 80s for five days in a row.

You’d be surprised what getting a 60-year-old speedometer rebuilt costs if you don’t know somebody who already does that work.

Specs say the tank holds 18 liters of gas, which is about 4.75 gallons. I put 4.45 gallons of gas in the tank when I refueled. That’s about 17 liters, so I ran it down pretty good.

Errands, sort of. I waited too long to write this down, so I can’t quite remember all three of the things I did. I went to the doctor’s office first for an 0800 appointment.

What a weekend! I had off work Friday and decided Saturday would be a riding day as well. My wife was out of town. Two long and relatively hard days of riding to collect Virginia Ground Tour stops.

I waited too long and forgot what I did on this day. But I did get a photo of oil filters for a future article.

With Gridlock closing in just a few weeks, things are getting super real in a hurry.

Planned for a 300-mile day but it didn’t work out.

Yesterday—end at 65,996 (31 miles). Ran out to Carmean’s to talk to him about the ’66. He wasn’t there. Came home. Gas @ 66,049 –

No riding. Took Jim’s truck & trailer up to George’s shop to collect the last 56 tires. I also collected a bunch of my parts to take home – everything I need to do the pushrod tube seals on the Airhead, plus a set of Michelin tires and some tubes, and my carb parts.

Fear and anxiety don’t care what kind of bike you ride, so when something that causes you fear and anxiety pops up unexpectedly, you either go or you don’t.

Today I bought a 1966 R 60/2.

Just errands today. Lots of riding in the city.

It’s surprising how many big, heavy military reference books one can fit in a side case. Plus I set a new world record for riding!

Seems weird to ride almost 60 miles just to get gas, but I also stopped to get the side case key George found duplicated. Two keys cost me about $11. Must have gotten the new guy first.

Black leather jacket was a poor choice—after the first stop, hot & sweaty despite temps in the 50s and low 60s. Who knew having black leather on your back in direct sunlight was a heat sink?

Local club breakfast this morning. Great weather, good turnout—had to be 20 or more bikes. Took the long way home to use an E0 pump.

Sold the Indian FTR tonight. Got my full asking price.
